Practical Tips for Shopping at Second Hand Stores and Thrift Shops

It’s not a secret that I love finding a bargain. I mean, who doesn’t? I’m a regular at local second hand and charity stores, on the look out for my latest great find. There is a certain pride when someone asks me where I got a certain piece of my outfit from, and I can say “it’s from Vinnies“. I have always had the knack for shopping; from a young age I would take my pocket money I had earned from working at my family’s cafe and take it to the shops around the corner. Over the years I’ve learnt…

Style Hacks with Maryanne Irhia

The clothes that I put on my body are a freedom of expression. It’s a creative outlet. It’s the way that I choose to represent myself to the world. I experiment, envision, then create. I revel in wearing things that are a bit more controversial. I would describe my fashion style as bohemian chic. It compliments my free spirited and laid back personality. I choose comfort over style and adorn my body in loose and whimsical top and skirts. I am romantic in nature and express that side of myself through floral prints. And that is beautiful and powerful thing.…

Currently on the Lust List

I’m always trying to save money. ‘Trying’ to save money can be very hard. Especially when you have fabulous taste in clothing, and shoes, and a penchant for new makeup products. So the next few items are what I have been constantly looking at online. I haven’t bought them as yet. I certainly can’t afford to buy them all. Online shopping is so dangerous. It’s not like ‘real’ shopping when you hand the money over. It’s a bit like you never used the money at all. Or in my case, you simply forget. Last week I checked my bank balance…

Dressing Up with Daniel Wellington

These days with smartphones in our pockets and days filled with desk jobs sitting at computers with the time in the top right hand corner, the traditional watch may seem obsolete. But why should we wear a watch? And why do I continue to wear one, even though I have a smartphone. I have the ‘watch tan’ to prove it… I think wearing a watch looks good. Sure, I know I might sound shallow, but ever since I can remember part of my morning routine after brushing my hair or ironing my clothes was putting on a watch. It just…

Shoe Heaven at Sissa Sorella

We ladies LOVE shoes. And new Canberra store Sissa Sorella is the stuff of shoe lovers dreams. I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the opening of Sissa Sorella on Friday night. Located behind the Double Shot Cafe in Deakin Shopping Centre, this modern boutique welcomes it’s customers with walls of blush pink, a polished concrete floor and touches of gold. On entering I was struck by the details in the decor. The store has rose gold phones sitting on embellished hard cover books, vases of buttons, flowers and personal photos of family from the glory days. Sissa…

2018 STYLE RESOLUTIONS

With every new year comes a new set of trends. 2017 saw the explosion of Athleisure, Utilitarianism and hints of 80’s glam. It’s safe to say that 2018 will be no exception. Fashionistas have predicted that 2018 will see the continued popularity of slip dresses, the use of plastic in both shoes and clothing (thanks Kim K), and a new wave of designer collections embracing bright primary colours. I approached a host of well-dressed women to share their New Year’s Style Resolutions:   Najima Rasool of Dusk Avenue Najima is a fashion and beauty blogger who loves to keep it…

All About Abbey Road Vintage

I love VINTAGE. I love finding unique pieces that you can’t find in mass produced retail stores. I like the fact that I can feel safe in knowing that when I walk down the street I won’t see two other girls wearing the same thing as me. I have professed my love for clothing store Abbey Road Vintage before. The store’s owner, Belle Strahorn, has a unique selection of quirky and bohemian pieces. Her eye for detail and the latest trend is evident, with her latest stock of colourful tassel earrings, and fresh denim pieces for summer. My latest work…

Party Shoes for the Silly Season (that you can wear all night long!)

When it comes to shoes I love a beautiful pair of heels as much as the next girl. However, in terms of comfort, I must admit to opting for a smaller heel or flat, when I know it’s going to be a long night. Party season is upon us and while I understand that is imperative that you look friggin amazing, it would be nice if you didn’t break an ankle, or could walk properly. I know. Pfffft. Shame on us amateur high heel wearers. So I’ve put together a list of shoes that are: Pretty Comfortable (well more comfortable…

Tailored Talk with Naudic Australia

I had the pleasure of talking to Naudic designer and creator Emma Puttick last week. Her designs are so colourful and reflective of our Autralian lifestyle, there’s a few that I have my eye on…   Before you created your own label you were working as a scientist in London. Have you always been interested in fashion? And how did you come to create the label?   I’ve always been interested in fashion and dressing with personality. I love seeing people show their individuality through style and expressing themselves through colour, patterns and different shapes. I worked in London at…

What I Wore: Hyatt Hotel Canberra

I’ve had the privilege (and got so freaking excited that I danced around in my pi’s with my mum and my fat corgi kinda privilege) of being invited to a number of Hyatt Hotel Canberra events. This outfit featured shows a trench coat, that I, being the clever chicken that I am, wore as a dress. I had seen this trend for trench coats in magazines, but like many things in magazines I didn’t really think it would suit the love handles on my hips or my boobs are bigger than a size B cup. But, forever the optimist, I…
