I know that there’s a lot of talk about resolutions being rubbish, but I genuinely think there is no harm in using the turn of a New Year as a way of taking a moment to realise how you’d like to change your life, or certain parts of it in the following year. I mean, when did the idea of self growth become a negative thing? Sure I know there is the likely probability that I will not achieve all of my resolutions, but I certainly don’t see the harm in trying to change my life for the better, do you?
Style is a big part of my life. I have always loved clothes and it is a part of who I am and who I will always be, so of course my resolutions for 2019 include a few goals for my wardrobe..
1.Stop Playing it So Safe.
I tend to stick to the same old silhouettes because thats what I feel most comfortable in. This year I want to step out of my comfort zone and mix it up a little. I might wear my solid white Fila sneakers with a stunning frilly dress, or wear my pink tutu down the street of my hometown to get the groceries. I need to begin to embrace that I am a weirdo. My clothes and how I wear them are a part of that.
2. Dry Clean and Tailor My Clothes.
I have so many gorgeous and unique pieces hanging in that crowded closet of mine that have never seen the light of day because they don’t fit that well. Some may also have a tiny small stain on them because I’ve forgotten to take them to the dry cleaners for the umpteenth time. There is nothing better than a dress, shirt or fabulous pair of pants that fit you just right and highlight everything you love about your body. It’s all about the investment.

3. Use the Clothes I Already Own.
I have a terrible habit of trailing through Instagram and online shops whenever I have an event coming up. Birthday party, blog function, bridal shower, baby shower, my great Aunt Audrey’s retirement, you name it – I’ve bought an outfit for it. So many outfits for so many events that I genuinely do not need to buy an outfit for the remainder of 2019. I need to begin using what I already have hanging in my closet and get creative.
Note: Someone please remind me of this in May when all the beautiful new Winter clothing comes out and I’m back to drooling over the gorgeous new items on my feed…
4. Donate old clothes and clean out my closet more regularly
There are so many items in my closet that I have bought, worn once or never at all and simply stored away. There are also pieces that I once loved but I’ve simply outgrown them. In 2019 I want to make it a regular thing that I clean out my closet and donate them. And who knows maybe I can find a hidden gem among the Vinnies store racks while I’m there…
Love
Sammy Xx
